Tasmania

In Tasmania's national parks you'll find a huge variety of landscapes and vegetation and thriving populations of birds and animals. The parks range in size from the Rocky Cape National Park, 3,064 hectares, at the western end of the north coast to the vast Southwest National Park, 608,000 hectares, in the World Heritage Area of the south-west.

Some parks, especially in the western half of the island, are noted for mountains and rainforest. Some, especially in the coastal areas of the east, for sand dunes. In all, the vegetation, from towering eucalypt trees to tiny wildflowers, is unspoiled. Birds, animals and fish nest, burrow and breed. Relics of Tasmania's history rest where they were left - many are stabilised to prevent further decay.
